Scott's Post on Tithing and the Economy

Acts 4:32 - All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had.

Please when you get the chance to read it, go to Scott Kleinman's blog and read his perspective on tithing. Easily one of the best articulations of how I feel towards giving/tithing. PLEASE READ IT!!!! I can't stress that enough.

In a consumer world we like to take, use up, and dispose. And when we do give we file it on our taxes so that we can even get a percentage of it back... it's a ridiculous system (not our tax system). I have like $100 right now (which may seem like the motherload to some and may seem like an ant's peepee to others), why do i "need" to give 10% of that %100 to a church, that might spend it on paying their janitors (I have nothing against janitors.. I am one) or maybe they'll spend it on something 'honorable' like feeding the homeless, when one of my best friends doesn't have enough money to meet rent that month? There's nothing wrong with tithing to a church but let's begin to think about why we do this? And if we're a leader in a church then let's begin to think about how to invest that 10% in a more appropriate way than buying the pastor a new car.

This blog is more of a rant than a well-formulated expression of how I feel. But it is roughly how I feel at the moment about money.
